November 8, 2007: On November 8, 2007, a Morris County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Agostin Ramos-Ortiz, age 29, previously of Boonton, with two counts of First Degree Attempted Murder, two counts of Second Degree Aggravated Assault, one count of Second Degree Burglary, two counts of Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, two counts of Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and two counts of Third Degree Terroristic Threats.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on January 14, 2007. At approximately 3:10 a.m., Mountain Lakes Police Department responded to a telephone call reporting an assault that occurred at 1 Lakewood Drive, Mountain Lakes. While the victims were in the bedroom, the defendant allegedly entered the house and the bedroom and began stabbing the victims with two knives. After the stabbings, the defendant fled the scene.

Since the date of the crime, numerous law enforcement agencies including the Mountain Lakes Police Department, Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Morris County Sheriff's Office, I.C.E., and U.S. Marshals Service have been searching for the defendant.

If convicted of all charges, defendant faces a maximum potential custodial sentence of over 60 years in New Jersey State Prison.

Despite these pending charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt following a jury trial at which the defendant has all of his rights guaranteed by the U.S. and New Jersey Constitutions and relevant state law.
